Dancing Timber is my creative outlet.

The Written Word
I have always written stories to soothe my soul. Writing in a journal felt weird. I didn’t think I was a good audience.
When I chose Dancing Thunder in the mid-1990’s for my online name, it stuck with me.
My first story published in Medium, I Was Sprinkled with Hippie Dust on August 15, 2015 was a fun romp that readers enjoyed.
One of the last stories published in Medium was When Real People Stand Still. Someone left a comment, “Powerful article …”
When I wrote Bra-less Leaders on August 17, 2016 an editor asked if I would mind if they republished some of my stories.
Sometimes I needed to pour out my heart. Defeat is Another Opportunity To Practice Being Prepared was published on February 18, 2019 and is still shared around the Web.
The last time I published a story in Medium was December 22, 2022.
Macrame Life
I learned how to macrame in my early 20’s at one of the lowest points in my life.
I was working full time to earn my student college grant money and had a full time course load majoring in Journalism. I lived in a one room apartment crawling with mice that would run over me while I slept.
When I reached my breaking point, a college professor helped me admit myself to a facility for help.
For three days I lived with people of all ages and situations who needed support. There was someone professional to talk to. I even made a friend, who was also a college student where I went to school. We vowed to never tell anyone we were ever there.
On the second day we were taught how to macrame plant hangers as a therapy project. I loved it. I rolled out rope from one end of the room to the other end and made my first piece.
It was a much needed thrilling sense of accomplishment.
A Long Rope To New Life

On my third day I was discharged. I found a group of fellow film and writing students to share a house with and although there were hard years ahead, I had the courage to keep going. I wasn’t alone anymore.
It would be 10 years before I returned to macrame when my children were young and another 10 years before I took it back up and stayed with it.
Today, when I weave rope, I usually just listen to what Spirit wants to create. It’s a beautiful gift.
Moving the Macrame
In August 2024 we downsized and moved away from 10 acres in the woods into a brand new house in a 55 + Active Adult community. It was the end of a chapter for my macrame and sewing hobby dream set up that I purchased to work in and store supplies. It was so cute and relaxing in there that even the workmen who came to the property for various projects loved to sit inside.
The new craft room in the basement of the new house is larger and in an unfinished room section.
